Mare Castner of Muncie, Indiana and Susan Smith of Wales have been friends for 47 years. Their only interaction for 25 years was exchanging letters, but even across thousands of miles, they have supported each other through thick and thin.

A Cut Above The Rest

Maxwell's Barber Shop has been in business for 62 years, putting the customer first all the while and planting deep roots in the community. Most recently, Maxwell's has begun giving free haircuts to law enforcement officers and raising funds to send gift cards to local agencies and departments.

"I love Muncie": Fire Up DWNTWN was a step in helping rebuild Muncie by bringing people together and supporting local businesses

Though it didn’t go exactly to plan, Fire Up DWNTWN took over Walnut Street and the rest of downtown Muncie, Indiana, August 6, 2022. Hot air balloons still briefly took the skies, local businesses set up shop under tents, food trucks lined the street and countless other events ran from 1-10 p.m., prompting Muncie’s community to show out in full form.
