An array of fried and novel foods.
The roar of attendees on rides.
The taste the summer air.
All of these things can be found while attending the Delaware County Fair at the Delaware County Indiana Fairgrounds in Muncie, Indiana.
Lasting from July 11 to July 23, 2022's fair hosted daily 4-H events, festival rides and more according to the Delaware County Fair’s website. Other shows included a demolition derby as well as a rodeo.
Along with family entertainment, the fair also gave opportunities for small business owners, like Kelly Swoveland of Mud and Honey, to expand their customer base for the first time in Muncie.
“We make a lot of gifts and products for customers,” Swoveland said. “We’re from Randolph County, so we love the small-town fairs and festivals.”
What started as a first appearance at Swoveland’s hometown fair ended up becoming her way of doing business. By selling custom-made cups, designed shirts and additional goodies, Swoveland liked the ability to meet and greet her customers at the fair.
“We used to sell online only, and we kind of landed into doing fairs and festivals last year and we fell in love with it. We enjoy the people,” Swoveland said.
Local election candidates also met with fair attendees to spread messages about their campaign. Matt Kantz, Delaware County Council republican candidate, came to the fair to get his name out as a “first-time candidate.”
“Almost all of Delaware County shows up here over the course of a week or two, so I thought it would be a good idea to come out here, give out some stickers and have fun,” Kantz said.
The 2022 Delaware County Democratic Candidates handed memorabilia out to fans to those walking around the festival and had a tent for those interested in learning more.
