Heading one hour west to Westfield, Indiana, Ball State will have a chance to redeem last season’s runner-ups with a MAC title. The Cardinals will tee off April 26 to begin their three-day event at Chatham Hills.
The game, which was forced into extra innings following a late-game collapse by the Cardinals, ended in Ball State tying the Hoosiers 7-7. The game was called due to darkness to give the Cardinals their first tie game of the season.
“Right now our focus is being back and ready to play tomorrow,” Wes-Del head coach Daniel Hanson said. “We try not to look at the big picture, not look at the rankings, to the end of the year, none of that. Just getting in and getting better at focusing on what we can control.”
In the loss to the Boilermakers, the Cardinals only recorded one hit, which was a solo home run from senior Kaitlyn Mathews. Ball State finished its 2024 non-conference season with a 13-14 record.
Throughout a season that saw a number of ups and downs, from placing 14th in their season opener to placing 1st at the Brittany Kelly Classic two weeks later, the Cardinals continued to climb. Closing out their season at the Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio, Ball State’s young squad had a lot to prove.
At the end of the evening, it was the Eagles who ended their four-game skid as Delta took the victory against the Bearcats 16-1 in five innings. Delta will be on the road for its next contest against Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Shelbyville April 23 at 6 p.m. Muncie Central will travel to Muncie Burris for its next matchup, also April 23 at 6 p.m.
“When we were 1-7, the first thing was to put ourselves in a position to be in the playoffs,” Maloney said. “We climbed a heck of a mountain, and we are still climbing, winning series after series for about four weekends in a row.”
“It was a difference maker,” Ball State head coach Helen Peña said. “We were sitting around the same number as Akron and we needed it. But also just creating momentum going into our midweeks and our last few conference series.”
With a 157-115 victory over the Atlanta Hawks Sunday, the team clinched the sixth seed, escaping the play-in tournament. Their first round matchup? The third-seeded Milwaukee Bucks.
After having multiple ceremonies before the game, Wapahani baseball defeated Alexandria 4-2. Raiders' starting pitcher Kayson Perdue threw a complete game with six strikeouts.
Brian Dudley spent 40 years as the Wapahani varsity baseball coach and finished his career with an 828-320 record.
No. 10 Ball State was upset by No. 18 Lindenwood in a five-set battle (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 11-15) on the Cardinals’ home court Thursday night. With how scarce at-large bids to the NCAA men’s volleyball tournament are, it is likely that the red and white’s 2024 campaign is over.
Whether it be members of the women’s basketball, men’s volleyball teams or any other, Ball State athletics is continuing to grow its LGBTQ+ community.
Being a member of the LGBTQ+ community comes with peaks and valleys, especially for these former Ball State athletes and staff.
Cowan will be on the road for another conference game against Shenandoah (5-2) April 18, with first pitch is set for 5 p.m. Wes-Del will play their fourth game in four days as the Warriors travel to Randolph Southern (1-3) to battle the Rebels in a conference game with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
Miami (OH) swept Ball State softball in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader April 16. Ball State heads back home to First Merchants Ballpark for a three-game series against the Akron Zips, which begins on April 20 with the first pitch set for 1 p.m.
After jockeying for position with Ohio and Butler throughout the competition’s second day, Ball State finished atop the 11-team field, one stroke ahead of the Bobcats and Bulldogs, in order to take home first place.
Ball State Baseball walked away from its weekend series against Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent Akron with a sweep.
