Ball State (1-3-3, 0-0-1 MAC) headed East to its neighboring state, Ohio to battle it out on the field at Miami University (4-2-2, 0-0-2 MAC). The Cardinals scored twice quickly to go up 2-0 before the Redhawks swooped in putting two on the board, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
The first goal was scored by Ball State's first-year forward Delaney Caldwell, assisted by first-year defender Acadia Murphy within thirty seconds after kick-off. Caldwell hit it low and hard in the bottom right of the net outside of Miami goalkeeper Izzie Vaccari’s reach.
Following the goal, Miami had possession to start play but was quickly turned over resulting in another Ball State goal in the 6th minute of the game. The ball was centered in the goal by third-year midfielder Avery Fenchel with the assist coming from third-year defender Abby Elgert.
Miami got back into the game with a goal in the 27th minute by Camber Hayes. The Redhawks pushed throughout the remainder of the first half with six shots on goal while second-year goalkeeper Bethany Moser held out to keep the lead for the Cardinals.
Nine minutes into the second half, the Redhawk's Norah Roushout put the ball in the top right corner of the net after receiving it from Hayes, tying the match up at 2-2.
Both teams were penalized with a yellow card; Ball State's Fenchel and Miami’s Hayes received penalties for their misconduct. Although only two cards were distributed the battle continued throughout the game resulting in 7 fouls on the Cardinals and 11 on the Redhawks.
Ball State plays again Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at home against Eastern Michigan (1-4-3, 0-0-1 MAC). The game will be available on the ESPN+ platform.
