The Ball State Cardinals (28-4, 16-2 MAC) opened Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament play with a 77-53 first round win against the Ohio Bobcats (11-19, 8-10 MAC) Wednesday afternoon. Tip-off for Ball State’s second round game against the winner of Northern Illinois V. Kent State is scheduled for Friday, March 15, 30 minutes after the conclusion of the game between the Toledo Rockets and Buffalo Bulls.
The No. 2 seeded Cardinals’ (16-2 MAC) first round contest is set for approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, against No. 7 seed Ohio (11-18, 8-10 MAC) in the third contest of the day.
“We just hung in there,” said head coach Mike Fleck. “There were challenges everywhere, and it was tough. We just battled, and that is probably what I’m most proud of the guys for—their mentality today when it got really tough again.”
The record-breaking season Ball State women’s basketball (27-4, 16-2 MAC) has had up to this point has been the prelude to what their ultimate goal is: capturing a MAC championship and NCAA tournament berth.
Ball State picked up its seventh win of the season with a 6-1 victory over the University of Illinois - Chicago.

The Wapahani Raiders and Delta Eagles each won their regional championship to advance in the IHSAA boys' basketball state tournament.
“We talk a lot about playing the standards, and part of that is giving your max effort. It doesn't matter if you're up 20 [or] down 20. It doesn't matter if it's first quarter fourth quarter [or] overtime,” junior Nyla Hampton said. “At any point in time, give all that you can.”
The Cardinals (15-16, 7-11 MAC) failed to give themselves a chance at earning the No. 8 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament with a 80-70 loss to Bowling Green (19-12, 10-8 MAC) in Ohio. In addition to Ball State's loss, Western Michigan (12-19, 9-9 MAC) defeated Akron (21-10, 13-5 MAC) 90-84 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Junior Jalin Anderson led Ball State with 22 points as the Cardinals ended their 2023-24 season with a 80-70 loss to Bowling Green.
