The Muncie Indiana Transit System, or MITS for short, makes riding a breeze with our convenience and mobility. We work hard to provide reliable and effective transportation to everyone in Muncie. There are several perks that make MITS great for students, but here’s our top five reasons why you should catch a ride with us!

1. Cost-Effective

Did you know Ball State students can ride the MITS bus for free? Instead of spending money to fuel your tank, call an uber or pay for parking, you can get anywhere in Muncie without spending a dime. When you get on the bus, just show the driver your Ball State ID and you’re ready to ride!

2. It’s Super Easy

If you’ve never taken public transportation, you may be hesitant to hop on a bus. Luckily, we make it convenient and easy to get from place to place. Download our handy MITSBus App (available on the App Store and Google Play) to find real-time location information and estimated times of arrival. Still worried about missing your stop? Check out our First Bus Ride website to learn more about finding a stop, getting on and off the bus, and transferring between different routes.

3. Get where you need to be

With MITS, you can cut the hassle of finding a parking spot and walking all the way to class. MITS gets you where you need to be quickly and easily. With over 15 different routes around the community, it’s easy to get from Ball State to the Muncie Mall, Minnetrista, Walmart and more.

4. Eco-Friendly

Public transportation offers an environmentally friendly option. Transportation accounts for more than 30% of carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. By taking public transit, 37 million metric tons of carbon dioxide is saved from going into the air each year. With the hybrid diesel-electric buses, a single commuter switching their commute to MITS will reduce about 5,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually!

5. Ride Your Bike AND Ride the Bus

MITS has made it easier than ever to ride your bike and hop on the bus. It doesn’t matter whether you bike because the stop is too far, or if you ride for the fun of it. Just pedal to the nearest bus stop and MITS will be there to pick you up with your bike! MITS provides easy-to-use bike racks on the front of all their busses, ensuring that you (and your bike) get to your destination safely and easily.

MITS works hard to provide reliable and effective transportation to everyone in Muncie. No matter where you are trying to visit, save some money, time, and energy, and ride with MITS!

To learn more information, visit our website and give us a call at 765 289-MITS so we can help you plan your first ride.
