MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State Field Hockey went to battle for the first time on home turf this season on Sunday.

The Cardinals were red hot off of two straight wins over Lock Haven and Ohio University but just a 2-4 record on the year.

It’s a defensive battle from the jump, in a scoreless first quarter for both squads. Just moments into the second quarter, senior Michaela Graney broke the scoring silence for the cards and found the back of the net.

The Cardinals locked up on defense once again until a score from St. Louis's Brooke Mason early in the fourth to put the Billikens on the scoreboard.

Just minutes later, sophomore star Fleur Knopert found paydirt. 2-1 would be the final score of the match as the Cardinals improved to a 3-4 season.

Head coach Caitlin Walsh felt that the home atmosphere was a key component to the win.

"We were on the road for the first few weeks so that’s always a challenge,” Clark emphasized, “then coming back here and having our fans, our families, our friends here. I think that just brought that extra energy and motivation."

On the performance side, when asked about her thoughts on the performance, Clark said, “it was a good team weekend, there were a lot of people who played well,” after their 2-0 weekend.

“We played together, we trusted each other and we got the job done” Clark said after the 2-1 win over the Billikens.

Ball State Field Jockey will be back at home this Friday against Central Michigan at 2 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex.
