Jennifer Eber, one of eight nominees, recently won the A. Jane Morton Award for her 12 years of service at Ball State.
Along with working as the communications and technical support manager, Eber also serves on the Staff Council at Ball State and volunteers at United Way in the community.
“I didn’t expect to win because I didn’t feel like I was that well known on campus,” Eber said. “I was overwhelmed and excited when I heard my name announced. I didn’t even know what to say.”
The A. Jane Morton Award is an award given in honor of A. Jane Morton, who worked at Ball State for 25 years in the office of academic research. Morton was highly dedicated to her job, active in Ball State organizations and shared her knowledge of all academic disciplines on campus.
Each Ball State staff member nominated for the award demonstrated excellence in their job and abundant service to Ball State and the community.
Fran Tucker, technology help desk support analyst, said she nominated Eber for the award because of her work with students and the Unified Technical Support staff.
“Jennifer freely and unselfishly gives up her time,” Tucker said. “Her talent is encouraging for others to get involved as she humbly demonstrated service to others. I love working with her and I am proud to call her my friend.”
As a member of the Staff Council for Ball State, Eber works with other members to help reach a resolution to issues brought forth by employees.
Outside of Ball State, Eber is also highly involved in her church, assisting with mission work, the worship team, Sunday school and the youth outreach program.
Along with the framed and engraved print certificate, Eber also got a monetary award of $1,000.
“I’m very humbled to win the A. Jane Morton Award, and I feel like my hard work was noticed just by being nominated,” Eber said. “I knew I was involved in a lot of things and served, but I didn’t know I would win. I don’t see serving as a job. I genuinely enjoy helping others, and I feel like my purpose on this Earth is to do so.”
