David Owsley Museum of Art to host 3rd annual Art in Bloom fundraiser

The David Owsley Museum of Art is celebrating the beginning of summer by inviting the Muncie community to stop and smell the roses at its third annual Art in Bloom fundraising event this weekend.

Art in Bloom was created to help promote community involvement in the museum, a service that Museum Director Robert La France said allows “big-city perks to be enjoyed in America’s middletown.” 

The event, funded by the Sursa/Griner Group of Raymond James in Muncie, will help the museum in funding it's free programs along with it’s growing collection.

On Friday, the first day of the event from 5 - 8 pm, the museum will host a Ticketed Gala that costs $50. The Gala will include live music from the Tucker Brother Trio, appetizers and cocktails with valet parking available at the Riverside Avenue entrance to the museum.

Floral arrangements created by Dandelions Flowers & Gifts, Miller’s Flower & Gift Shop, JP Parker Flowers, Buck Creek in Bloom and R. Geary Floral designs will also be on display and judged. The arrangements will be the florists’ interpretations of works of art at the museum.

Gold and silver prizes will be awarded by the guest judges and those attending will be able to vote for their favorite arrangement. 

The voting continues Saturday and Sunday and the winner of the People’s Choice Award will be announced at the end.

“Art in Bloom is an opportunity to experience DOMA in a unique way, celebrating springtime with inspired floral creations and other members of the community,” Museum Assistant Director Rachel Buckmaster said.

Buckmaster encourages the Ball State and Muncie community to support the museum and hopes to see a large attendance throughout the weekend.
