The Ball State men’s tennis team hits the road Wednesday as they travel to West Lafayette to take on Illinois.

The Cardinals (5-4) are currently riding a four-match win streak while the Illini (6-4) are coming off a 4-0 loss to Kentucky.

The Cardinals are looking to continue strong performances in singles play. In Friday’s victory the Cardinals took four of the six singles matches. Sophomore Marko Guzino clinched the match for Ball State on court two with a straight set win (6-4, 6-2). Also in singles play senior Andrew Stutz, Sophomore Nemanja Guzina and Patrick Downs also won in singles play.

The Illini have had strong singles play of recent too with redshirt senior Julian Childers clinching a team win for the third time this season against Northern Illinois on Feb. 24.

Last season the Cardinals fell to Illinois by a score of 4-0. In the loss Nemanja Guzina won his first set 6-4 over senior Brian page. Senior Patrick Downs also won a set winning the first stanza 7-5 over Illinois’ redshirt sophomore Pablo Landa.

Time: 12 p.m.


Illinois will be the fourth Big Ten opponent Ball State has faced this season. Opponents that include matches against Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State.
