In its last two non-conference games of the 2022 season, Ball State Women’s Volleyball (8-4, 0-0) went winless in the Stacey Clark Classic at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Friday’s lone game saw the Cardinals fall in five sets (21-25, 25-18, 27-29, 25-22, 10-15) to Northern Kentucky (2-9, 0-0 HORIZON).
Senior outside hitter Natalie Risi posted her fifth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 14 digs on a night where three other Ball State players finished in double-digit kills.
The senior duo of middle blocker Marie Plitt and opposite Natalie Mitchem each tallied 10 kills apiece. Junior middle blocker Lauren Gilliand finished with 11 kills against the Norse, second most for the Cardinals.
Against Northern Kentucky, senior libero Havyn Gates matched her career-high in digs for Ball State with 24.
Saturday’s match against host and 10th-ranked Purdue (9-1, 0-0 B10) ended with a sweep for the Boilermakers (11-25, 23-25, 28-30) – Plitt led the way for Ball State with eight kills.
Gilliand raked in seven kills against the Boilermakers, second-most for the Cardinals. Gilliand and Plitt were both named to the all-tournament team after two games.
Risi and Gates were the anchors for Ball State’s defense with Risi notching 10 digs and Gates leading the Cardinals with 14 digs against Purdue.
With their non-conference schedule wrapping up, the Cardinals head to Central Michigan Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. for their first Mid-American Conference (MAC) match of the 2022 campaign.
