Awardees of the Whitinger Scholarship and the John R. and Aline B. Emens Leadership Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year from Ball State University’s Honors College have been announced.
Whitinger Scholarships—the signature scholarship program of the Honors College—supplement Ball State’s Presidential Scholarships or similar Ball State awards to cover tuition and University fees which automatically accrue for a full-time student. This scholarship honors Dr. Ralph J. Whitinger, a 1929 graduate who served many years as the first president of the Ball State University Foundation.
For the 2022-23 academic year, eight students have been awarded the Whitinger Scholarship.
The 2022-23 Whitinger Scholars are:
- Emilie Allen of Nappanee, Ind.; majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy Exercise Science
- Michaela Ayeh of Indianapolis; majoring in Sociology
- Sai Hamm of Daleville, Ind.; majoring in Biochemistry
- Shaina Miller of Evansville, Ind.; majoring in Environmental Geoscience
- Gabriel Minichiello of Pendleton, Ind.; majoring in Wildlife Biology and Conservation
- Dorian Underwood of Auburn, Ind.; majoring in Theatre-Acting
- Afton Vanek of Oak Lawn, Ill.; majoring in Animation/Visual Arts
- Eleanor Witt of West Lafayette, Ind.; majoring in Special Education-Exceptional Needs: Intense Intervention
There are 15 awardees of the John R. and Aline B. Emens Leadership Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year. The number and the value of Emens Leadership Scholarships may vary slightly from year to year, but in recent years, the value has been approximately one-half the amount of in-state tuition at Ball State University.
The Emens Scholars Program, established in 1977, honors former Ball State University President John R. Emens and his wife, Aline B. Emens, for their many years of service to the University.
