On Dec. 9, the Ball State Student Government Association (SGA) held their weekly meeting over Zoom and voted to pass the resolution for a partnership between Ball State University and Rent College Pads that was introduced at the Dec. 2 meeting.
The resolution would allow the university to enter a contracted partnership with the organization and create a housing website to aid students when choosing off-campus housing.
During the discussion, President Connor Sanburn said that “it is not attractive” to university officials that the partnership includes a “contracted relationship” with Rent College Pads.
President Pro Tempore Dylan Lewandowski said he and the authors agreed to present the resolution to the vice president of student affairs and the director of student life rather than the University Senate.
The senate passed the partnership with Rent College Pads 26-3, with seven abstentions.
SGA also reviewed the amendment on defining the impact of voting choices of senators and how they will calculate the result of votes. It also defined how the “yea,” “nay” and “abstain” votes will be recorded.
The amendment passed 33-2, with three abstentions.
The senate also heard from Lynn Teter, Griffin Green, Rus’sel Butts and Liz Allsop, who were all applying to be members of the SGA Elections Board. The elections board helps conduct the SGA election in the spring semester.
Teter, a sophomore elementary education major, applied for the secretary position. Teter is a member of the Honors College and a peer mentor. The senate approved Teter 36-0, with one abstention.
Green, also a sophomore, applied for the sheriff position. Green is the Affairs Director for Ball State Democrats. The senate approved Green by a vote of 34-4, with one abstention.
Butts applied for the treasurer position. Butts is the president of the Global State Association and was an intern in the community development office. He was approved by a vote of 30-6, with three abstentions.
Allsop, a transfer student studying pre-dentistry, applied for the voting member position. Allsop is the treasurer of the Botsford-Swinford hall council. She was approved by a vote of 32-2, with three abstentions.
SGA will not meet Dec. 16 because of finals week. Their first senate meeting of the spring semester will be Jan. 27, 2021.
