Ball State University Police (UPD) and Muncie Police Department are investigating reports of shots fired on New York Avenue.

A tweet sent out by Ball State Alerts a little after 7:30 p.m. Friday, said MPD with UPD's assistance is investigating reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of N. New York Ave.

The tweet advised people to stay clear of the area until further notice.

MPD Lt. Ryan Trissel said there was an altercation between a couple of subjects and a physical fight. He confirmed that gunshots were fired and said the police were still looking for the subjects involved.


MPD with the assistance of BSU PD are investigating reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of N New York Ave. Stay clear of the area until further notice.

At around 8:20 p.m., a tweet was sent out stating there was no ongoing threat to campus allowing people to resume normal activities. It stated that MPD was continuing to investigate the incident.
