In the shooting of seven people at a house party on the 2400 block of Euclid Avenue early Saturday, one arrest has been made, according to Muncie police.
VaShaun Harnett, 19, was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, said Muncie Police Department Chief Joe Winkle. According to a Ball State press release, the suspect is not a Ball State student.
Harnett was booked in the Delaware County Justice Center at 12:20 p.m., said Sgt. Ashley Dau from the Justice Center.
Winkle said the police got the initial call about the shooting at 12:45 a.m. He said there weren't just Ball State students at the house party, but people from Muncie as well.
"I think when we got the call they were probably anywhere from 50 to 75 people there," he said. "It got a little bigger than they anticipated, I think."
Of three of the seven victims who were in critical condition, one is in stable condition after being flown to a hospital in Indianapolis early morning, and two are still in critical condition at Ball Memorial Hospital, but no deaths have been reported, Winkle said.
Among the other four victims who weren't in critical condition, two have been released and the other two are spending the night at Ball Memorial Hospital, he said.
"We expect them to be released in the next day or two," Winkle said.
In a press release, Ball State confirmed that one of its students was among the seven people shot. This student has been treated and released from Ball Memorial Hospital, the release states.
Winkle said the student was grazed by a bullet in her leg and did not suffer an actual bullet wound.
“Keeping all members of our campus community safe is a top priority,” said President Geoffrey Mearns in the press release. “This is a very unfortunate event. We wish all the victims a full and prompt recovery.”
Ball State is making counselors and other personnel available to assist the campus community in dealing with the event, the press release states.
