Ball State Women’s Tennis pushed their conference record to the .500 mark and overall to 13-4 Sunday afternoon after a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green
The team dropped two conference matches last week by one point, with both times seeing the opponent pick up the doubles point.
“(The doubles point) was very important,” head coach Max Norris said. “Not just winning it but how you start and how you look when you’re playing it. I think that sets the tone.”
Senior Audrey Berger and Junior Rebecca Herrington, who lost their doubles matches in those two conference losses, bounced back with a victory in both their double’s and respective singles matches.
In their doubles match, Berger and Herrington rolled to victory 6-1 over Bowling Green’s Polina Radeva and Laura Silveira.
“I think it was important for Rebecca and I to go out there and play loose and have fun,” Berger said. “Today and last Sunday when we played Toledo, we were loose, had fun and got the same result both times.”
After winning their doubles match, Herrington and Berger both earned singles victories, helping contribute to three of the team’s five points.
“The mindset of playing doubles and singles is totally different for me,” Herrington said. “In singles, everything is based solely on you, but in doubles, you have to think of you and your partner in terms of setting her up or her setting me up.”
Coach Norris was happy with the way Herrington and Berger have been playing as of late.
“It was tough for them losing to Miami (Ohio),” Norris said. “Rebecca and Audrey did not play poorly, they just didn’t play well enough to win against a team that’s playing at an elite level. Those two are very team-oriented players.
Like Herrington and Berger, seniors Peyton Gollhofer and Isabelle Dohanics also earned doubles and respective singles victories Sunday.
The Cardinals continue MAC play at home on Friday against the defending regular season and conference champions Buffalo.
